Joseph E. Snyder “beloved husband, father, grandfather, Poppa, and Popsicle”
COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Joseph E. “Joe” Snyder, 81, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Friday, February 28, 1941 in Coudersport, he was a son of Oscar D. and Hannah E. Haskins Snyder. On September 11, 1965 in Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport, he married Patricia L. Hamilton, who survives.
Joe was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1959 and then attended Lock Haven University.
Joe honorably served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class. After his military service, Joe returned to Coudersport, working at the former Pepper’s Market in Coudersport and for a short period of time was employed by National Fuel Gas. He and his wife owned and operated the Arco Gas Station in Coudersport. After selling the gas station, Joe was a Prudential Insurance salesman for over 9 years. For many years, Joe was the superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Coudersport Consistory where he also was in charge of the kitchen. During his years at the Consistory he also drove a school bus. He retired in 2016.
Joe attended Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport. He was a former volunteer driver for the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association. He was a member of the former Coudersport Jaycees and a member of the former Coudersport Service Club. He was a 50 year member of Potter Post 192 American Legion in Coudersport. Joe also served for many years on the Coudersport Borough Council having held the positions of president and vice president.
He was also a member of Eulalia Lodge # 342 F. & A.M. in Coudersport and a member of the Coudersport Consistory. On September 3, 2002, he received the 33rd degree which is the highest degree in Masonry. He was a member of Potter Commandery No. 69 Knights Templar, Coudersport.
He loved his dog, Sadie, who faithfully went to work with him everyday. His family was his greatest love.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years;
three children,
Jami L. (Doug) Morgan of Ridgway,
Kelli J. (Andy) Petroski of Sarasota, Florida, and
Michael J. (Amy) Snyder of Fair Play, SC;
four grandchildren, Megan Fowler, Erika Smith, Andy Fowler, and Erin Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Lexi Smith, Gavin Smith, IvoryElla Smith, and Sophie Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters,

Gary R. Snyder.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter Post 192 American Legion, 2 Buffalo Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to UPMC Cole Place Patient Activity Fund, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Joe’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

A double-ring ceremony, performed by candlelight in the sanctuary of Park Methodist Church Saturday evening, united in marriage Miss Patricia L. Hamilton and Joseph E. Snyder, both of Coudersport.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry K. Hamilton and her husband is the son of Mrs. Oscar Snyder and the late Mr. Snyder. The Rev. LaRue Bender, pastor of the church, officiated at an altar decorated with white gladioli and asters. Miss Lucille Clark, organist, played traditional wedding music and accompanied Keith Kelligan who sang the Wedding Prayer.
Entering the sanctuary on the arm of her brother, William, the bride wore a floor-length gown which featured a hooped skirt, lone lace sleeves and a fitted bodice. Her veil fell from a crown headpiece and she carried a white floral arrangement.
Her attendants were Linda Potter, maid of honor and Mary Matzinger, Phyllis Jaros and Gail and Carole Hamilton. Their identical gowns were pink, fashioned with floor-length overskirts. empire waistlines and short sleeves. They carried bouquets of white asters, tipped with blue.
Allen Snyder served as his brother's best man and ushers were Gary, Don and Milton Snyder, brothers of the bridegroom, and David Matzinger.
Marie Lyon, a cousin of the bride, was flower girl, and ringbearer was Jimmy Snyder, a nephew of the bridegroom.
The bride's mother wore a cream-colored two-piece dress with brown accessories and a red rose corsage. Mrs. Snyder wore a navy blue dress with a pink rose corsage.
A reception at Potato City Inn was held following the ceremony for approximately 170 relatives and. friends.
The couple left on a wedding trip to Washington, Florida and other points of interest before returning to Fort McClellan, Ala., where the bridegroom Is stationed. He expects to be released from the army in late November, when they plan to make their home In Coudersport.
The bride, a 1964 graduate of Coudersport Area High School, has worked at Clark. Bros.. Olean. Her husband was graduated here in 1959 and attended Lock Haven State College. Before joining the army, he was employed at Pepper's Food Market.
Pre-nuptial parties were held last month by the bride's friends at Old Hickory, Coudersport, the Castle In Olean.

COUDERSPORT, Pa.---Joseph E. “Joe” Snyder, 81, a lifelong resident of Coudersport, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2022, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Friday, February 28, 1941 in Coudersport, he was a son of Oscar D. and Hannah E. Haskins Snyder. On September 11, 1965 in Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport, he married Patricia L. Hamilton, who survives.
Joe was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1959 and then attended Lock Haven University.
Joe honorably served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965 during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class. After his military service, Joe returned to Coudersport, working at the former Pepper’s Market in Coudersport and for a short period of time was employed by National Fuel Gas. He and his wife owned and operated the Arco Gas Station in Coudersport. After selling the gas station, Joe was a Prudential Insurance salesman for over 9 years. For many years, Joe was the superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Coudersport Consistory where he also was in charge of the kitchen. During his years at the Consistory he also drove a school bus. He retired in 2016.
Joe attended Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport. He was a former volunteer driver for the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association. He was a member of the former Coudersport Jaycees and a member of the former Coudersport Service Club. He was a 50 year member of Potter Post 192 American Legion in Coudersport. Joe also served for many years on the Coudersport Borough Council having held the positions of president and vice president.
He was also a member of Eulalia Lodge # 342 F. & A.M. in Coudersport and a member of the Coudersport Consistory. On September 3, 2002, he received the 33rd degree which is the highest degree in Masonry. He was a member of Potter Commandery No. 69 Knights Templar, Coudersport.
He loved his dog, Sadie, who faithfully went to work with him everyday. His family was his greatest love.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years;
three children,
Jami L. (Doug) Morgan of Ridgway,
Kelli J. (Andy) Petroski of Sarasota, Florida, and
Michael J. (Amy) Snyder of Fair Play, SC;
four grandchildren, Megan Fowler, Erika Smith, Andy Fowler, and Erin Morgan; four great-grandchildren, Lexi Smith, Gavin Smith, IvoryElla Smith, and Sophie Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters,

Donald Snyder,
Anna Lee “Tee” Troy,
Norma Snow,
Edythe Glassmire,
Milton “Bud” Snyder,
Allen Snyder, and
Gary R. Snyder.
In keeping with Joe’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Potter Post 192 American Legion, 2 Buffalo Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to UPMC Cole Place Patient Activity Fund, 1001 East Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
Joe’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

Milton L. “Bud” Snyder, 75, of Coudersport, PA
Milton L. “Bud” Snyder, 75, of Coudersport, PA died Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport.
Born on December 1, 1933 in Coudersport, he was the son of Oscar and Hannah Haskins Snyder. On May 24, 1958 in Chrystal, PA he married Waneta Perkins who survives.
Mr. Snyder was a 1951 graduate of Coudersport High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served with the U. S. Air Force. He had worked for Joe Costa at Costa’s Electric Store for 17 years and later was a self-employed general contractor until his retirement.
Mr. Snyder was a member of Park United Methodist Church and a charter member of the former Jaycee’s when in 1966 he was Member of the Year. He was also a member and past president of the former Coudersport Exchange Club, now Coudersport Service Club, and was a member of the Coudersport Golf Club where he had served on the Board of Directors and in 2005 he received the Heritage Award.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Betsy Snyder of Coudersport, PA, a son, James M. (Sherri) Snyder of Coudersport, PA, two grandsons, Logan and Taylor Hathaway,
two brothers,
- Gary (Janice) Snyder of Olean, NY and
- Joseph (Patricia) Snyder of Coudersport, PA,
- a sister, Edith Glassmire of Coudersport, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Allen Snyder and Donald W. Snyder, and three sisters, Anna Lee “Tee” Troy, Leone Chase, and Norma Snow.
Friends may call from 6:00pm - 8:00pm Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Fickinger Funeral Home of Coudersport. Funeral and committal services will be at 3:00pm Sunday at Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport with Reverend Scott Ogden, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Eulalia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sweden Valley Manor Activities Fund, 1028 E. Second Street, Coudersport, PA 16915, or to the Coudersport Sports Boosters, c/o Coudersport High School, 698 Dwight Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.
