He married Martha Dandridge on 6 January 1759, in New Kent, Virginia, British Colonial America. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He registered for military service in 1752. In 1789, his occupation is listed as president of the united states. He died on 14 December 1799, in Mount Vernon, Fairfax County, Virginia, Old and New Style Dates Contemporaneous records used the Julian calendar and the Annunciation Style of enumerating years, recording his birth as February 11, 1731. The provisions of the British Calendar (New Style) Act 1750, implemented in 1752, altered the official British dating method to the Gregorian calendar with the start of the year on January 1 (it had been March 25). Daniel Parke Custis, who died ante Aug. 1757, of New Kent Co. He was born Oct. 15, 1711, at Queen's Creek on York River- the home of his maternal grandfather, Col. Daniel Parke. His father, Hon. John Custis, member of King's Council, etc b. 1678, d. 1749, Nov. 2, had married, in Aug. 1705, Frances, eldest dau. of Col. Daniel. Parke & Jane Ludwell- and has left on his tombstone at Arlington a lasting memorial of his marital infelicity, said to have been occasioned by the detestable temper of his wife: "Under this marble tomb lies the body of the Hon. John Custis Esq' of the city of Williamsburg, parish of Bruton, formerly of Hungar's Parish on the E. S. of Virginia & Co. of Northampton-aged 71 years and yet lived but 7 years, which was the space of time he kept a Bachelor's home at Arlington, E. S. of Va." But as his married life was but 1-7 of the span allotted him- his wife b. 1687, having died 1715, March 14-it seems unreasonable to charge all his unhappiness to her- some share may have been due to the fruits of that marriage. The father of the unhappy benedict was another Hon. John Custis of H. M. Council, Major-Gen in Bacon's Rebellion & Collector of Customs E. S. of Va1687. The children of Col.
