Notes
Not a son of a landed family
The Edward Kemp who was son of Robert Kemp and Dorothy Harris of Gissing, Norfolk, resided in Virginia according to multiple sources — including the will of his brother, Richard Kemp, colonial Secretary of Virginia. Furthermore, it is ludicrous to expect a scion of a landed family at that time to take up the trade of a blacksmith.
