· Dr. L. E. Steele, Surgeon and cofounder of Logan General Hospital. My gr. Uncle. He is Devil Anse’s gr. nephew. And Dr. Steele signed DevilAnse’s death certificate.

There was a Dr. Hatfield in Huntington back in the early 50s...anyone know his relationship to Devil Anse?

Judge Pattengill I know he was related to Devil Anse but don’t remember how. Think it was nephew somehow.

Judge Pattengill did you mean Henry Drewy Hatfield, who was a WV Governor & Dr. in Huntington? He died in 1962. Gov Hatfield was Devil Anse’s nephew. He was the son of Elias Prater Hatfield, Anse’s brother.
He is entombed at Woodmere Cem in the mausoleum. 1875-1962

The reason I ask, my family knew Edith (White) Ellis. (Edna’s daughter). When she became a teacher in Logan County, her first job was at Bruno, WV. She boarded with my Gr Grandparents. My gr Grandmother, Nancy (Hatfield) Grimmett was Elias & Anse’s first cousin.
My whole family loved Edith. When my mom was born, my grandparents named her Edith Grimmett after Edith (White) Ellis. I visited her several times in Stollings with mom. They kept in touch until Edith passed.

Because my GG grandfather (Nancy Hatfield Grimmett’s father) was James Guinney aka Old Slater Jim Hatfield. Slater was a brother to Ephraim Prater Hatfield, Anse’s dad.
Plus two more of my 3rd Gr grandfathers were Ephraim Prater Hatfield’s brothers: Joseph & Thomas Whitfield Hatfield. So, you are my cousin 2 more times: 4th cousin 3xR.
Hope I didn’t confuse you. That’s a lot to digest. There’s more but we’ll leave it there.

Brittany McCrea, if Doris White married Willard Elwood Altizer he was my 2nd cousin 1xR.
Willard’s father was Perigreene aka Perry Green Altizer. Perry Green was Aaron Altizer & Sarah Scagg’s son. Aaron & Sarah are my GG grandparents. Perry married Queen Victoria White.
My gr grandfather was Andrew Bruce Altizer, Perry Green Altizer’s brother. They are the sons of Aaron & Sarah (Scaggs) Altizer.
