• THOMAS BARBER DIES; WAS RETIRED HAMLIN TWP. ROAD SUPERVISOR
Thomas Barber, 05, of Hazelhurst, retired Hamlin Township road supervisor and McKean County resident for 68 years, died Thursday morning at 9:05 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. LeRoy Edgar of Cyclone, where he had lived since the death ( of his wife six years ago. He had been ill for the past two weeks.
Mr. Barber, who was born April 12, 1865 at Eagle, Wyoming County, N. Y., came to McKean County to reside in 1892. He had lived at Hazelhurst for 42 years.
He owned and operated a livery stable there for many years. Later he was employed as road supervisor in Hamlin Township for several years preceding his retirement.
He attended the Hazelhurst Methodist Church. He was a member of the Mt. Jewett Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Mr. Barber was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Harriet Blakeley Barber on April 9, 1954. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edgar:
two sons,
Ernest Barber of Hazelhurst and
Walter H. Barber of R. D. 1, Kane;
11 grandchildren; and 22 2 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Gwin Funeral Home at Mt. Jewett at the usual visiting hours, 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 o'clock, beginning this evening. Memorial services will be held at Gwin's Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. with the Rev. William R. Bowman of the Bradford First Baptist Church officiating Interment will be in Bridgeview cemetery at Mt. Jewett..
