WILLIAM "OLD WILLIAM" McCoy was born between 1750-1755. His birthplace is unknown, but he was the progenitor of the McCoys of the Kentucky-West Virginia border, and the forefather of all the McCoy's that were involved in the Hatfield-McCoy Feud.
It is thought that the William McCoy kinfolk came from Maryland, and there is evidence that two sons, John and Samuel, were born there.
Some descendants say that William lived near Cumberland, Maryland, and one descendant was told many years ago by an older relative that the McCoys once lived where the Antietam Battleground now stands.
William and his wife (named CORDELLA CAMPBELL of Giles, Virginia) were married in 1772, and became the parents of 13 children: ten sons and three daughters.

Delia Evans was the daughter of Rawley Evans and Mariah C. Dering, and the granddaughter of Colonel John Evans and Rebecca Ann Martin of Morgantown.
John William McCoy was the son of Joseph McCoy, Jr. who married Jane Martin in 1823 near Middlebourne, Tyler Co., VA.

Great history. They use to have an outdoor drama in Beckley West Virginia in a national park during the summer. Don’t know if it is still going on. I saw it long ago. If it is it was a fantastic drama of the Hatfields and the MaCoys.
