William Petry
VP of the United Mine Workers, was in shoot-out with Don Chafin in the offices of the headquarters of district No. 17 of the union when Chafin arrived to serve warrant for his arrest, shooting Chafin directly over his heart. Chafin covered the wound with his hand and walked to the hospital.
Petry was arrested and gave bond for $10,000.
