Hatfield and McCoy Feud
May 27 2023 · FB Group
Darrell Smith, a friend of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud page, submitted this fascinating photograph last year and commented, “My mom was a Hatfield. Around 1830, Madison Clark Hatfield moved from Virginia, to the area that became Arkansas. In this photo from 1905, my great-grandfather Hiram Edward Hatfield stands with his patrol horse. He was a sheriff deputy. My grandfather, Hiram Jefferson Hatfield, is two years old and wearing a dress, being held by his mother Molly Hatfield.
The house is in Washington, Arkansas, which served as the Capitol of the Confederacy for a time. It is called the Stuart House. It really is that massive. My mom and her sister Margaret attended the Hatfield-McCoy Reunion 20-30 years ago.”
Thanks, Darrell, for your photo and post. Repost by request. See less

What a nice pic. I have a Hatfield in my family from Arkansas. I am not 100% sure the research I have done for her is correct. Wondering if this may be the link.

We must be related. My Maternal Hatfield side is from Hempstead County. My mother remembered relatives from Washington. We were all born in Hope.

Washington was never the Capital of the Confederacy. It was the state capital of Arkansas for a while though.
