Born 30 Mar 1845 at Franklinville, NY. Son of Ashbel F. Bard and Julia Waring Bard. Studied law and worked at the Bank of Ellicottville. Married Ann Salisbury on 8 Oct 1867 at Franklinville; she died 12 Sep 1873; remarried to Martha Palmer on 30 Aug 1874 at Port Allegany, PA; she died 7 Aug 1919 at Gowanda, NY. William founded the Bank of Gowanda on 4 Apr 1881, incorporated in 1889. At the time of his death he was the oldest bank executive in New York State. He died at his home at 84 West Main Street, Gowanda on 14 Mar 1937.
