April 19 1876
Died of neglect and starvation in Liberty township, on Monday evening the 10th of April, 1876. Anna Maria Burrows, wife of Dan Burrows. It appears that she has been sick for some time and has been neglected by her husband, who has left her for three days at a time when she was unable to help herself and without anything to eat. Report says that she has lain for three days at a time in her own filth, without any one to take care of her or to minister to her wants. Complaint was made yesterday morning to E. Fitch, Esq, by Dr. J.S. Sterns, for assistance from the poor masters. Justice's Fitch and McDonald issued their order for relief and placed it in the hands of Poormaster Cole and he immediately rendered what assistance he could to relieve the dying woman but of no avail. The funeral will take place today at the expense of the town, in the Potters Field, at Port Allegany Cemetery.
If this report is true, and we have every reason to believe it, the brute of a husband should be at once arrested and brought to justice.
