BLISS, Kate M.
Age 97, formerly of Galeton, PA, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, PA.
Born December 12, 1911, in Brookland, PA, she was a daughter of the late Harry H. and Mary (Coppersmith) Hosley.
She graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College and was an English and French teacher in the Galeton Area School district, retiring in 1971. Kate was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Galeton Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Galeton Poetry Club. She also lived in Florida for many years and was a member of the Deborahs and taught Sunday School, and was named the Sunday School Teacher of the Year.
Surviving are,
- a son, James (Carol) Rowe, Voorhees, NJ;
- a daughter, June (Ronald) Howard, Jacksonville, NY;
five grandchildren; six great grandchildren;
- a brother, Champ Hosley, Coudersport;
- a sister, June Lanzalotti, Pompano Beach, FL;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kate was predeceased by husbands Adrian Rowe and Merle Bliss.
- A graveside service will be held at West Hill Cemetery, Galeton on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Galeton Library. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hess Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Collins Chapel, Galeton.
