Glenn Dunn Named Acting Emergency Management Coordinator For Potter County
pema

Glenn Dunn has begun work as Acting Emergency Management Coordinator for Potter County.

He succeeds Jim Steiner in the full-time position, reporting to Potter County Emergency Services Director John Hetrick.

Dunn is a former fire chief and emergency responder who worked for many years as an assistant with the vocational agriculture department at Coudersport Area High School. He has also served part-time for the county’s West Nile virus control program and he is active in the Potter-Tioga Maple Producers Association.

A vote on Dunn’s hiring will be taken at the next business meeting of the Potter County Board of Commissioners. If the hiring is formally approved, the terms will be made retroactive to Aug. 3. His pay will be set by the county’s Salary Board, comprised of the three Commissioners and the County Treasurer.

The provisional appointment allows Dunn to take advantage of training opportunities prior to the board’s next business meeting. Director Hetrick noted that Dunn will be participating in an expedited training program that will lead to certification by the Pa. Emergency Management Agency. Once he is certified by PEMA, the state will pay one-half of his salary. Potter County Today

As a former student of Glenns- I hope you show more ambition at your new job than you did at your assistant teaching job.

It is obvious that this county doesn't advertise for jobs within county gov't. Great one on the commissioners part. I figure it is another way for them to fill thier personal agenda.

I don't think anyone was aware that a temp appointment was being considered. Did anyone see any advertisement?
As far as Glenn is concerned congrat I know you will do a great job.

Contrats brother, its been long time coming. There are some boneheads on here that are clueless. Enjoy it, you have put a lot of hard work and long hours in for the county over the past 25 years.

What "personal agenda" would that be 11:00?

Not sure what the commissioners personal agenda but it seems to me that they keep filling positions without advertising them. It always seems to be good personal friends of thiers.

Why do we have an Emergency Management DIRECTOR AND COORDINATOR?? Glenn (or most people) could handle these positions by himself. It's not that busy an office. One of their biggest jobs is to submit the weather report to Solomon's words.

I guess they just don't know where to spend all of the 55.00 per person occ. privilege tax. Although it is funny to watch them get their panties in a bunch when a thunderstorm comes through, I'll have to agree with the posted above, why do we need a director and a coordinator?

Good personal friends how? Because they once worked at Adelphia, had a conversation with a commissioner at one time or have lived and worked here for all their lives?

I can't speak to whether some jobs have been posted or not or even if every position was required to be made public, but as far as the hirings being just loading up the county payroll with old buddies, I dont think that is a very accurate assessment.

Congrats Glenn! Job Well Done!

If anyone doesn't think there is a need for the position they obviously have no clue what really happens in today's society.. oh wait the same ones who complain that EMS and FIRE don't get there quick enough but don't bother volunteering either!
I know you can get the job done. Good Luck turning things around...

12:45 blogger who says that office isn't busy apparently has no idea what happens there on a daily basis. Not only do they handle info on hazmaterials, emergency plans for day cares, hospital, various facilities, pandemic info, fire/ems laws, financial records for which they have obtained grants for several programs in potter county (west nile virus, cert, 911, communications) they also handle the mapping and addresing of the county. Most of the staff and other volunteers are being trained on a high tech dispatching system which might allow 911 to save your ASS someday. These people are a extremely dedicated to their jobs and go above and beyond of what's required of them. Thank you to emergency services and the county for looking out for us and we wish Mr Dunn the best. He'll do a great job.

Congrats Glen! You will do well at this! Don't let the bad mouths on here bother you,as they are probably the ones who are sitting home, collecting the "free money" that the rest of us are making!! Some people obviously still need to GROW up and get a REAL job and quit being jealous of others who actually succeed in life!!

Does it really matter how a person looks in a picture? The importnat thing is that in light of the circumstances leading to the opening, the Commissioners appointed the best person for the job. It's time to let him do his job, I have no doubt that Glenn will exceed the expecations placed on him for this job. As far as the nay sayers, get over it. For the other yes I am his brother, thank you for asking. It is time to suppor him and John as they try to complete the vision they have for the county and for the furture of the emergency services and communications that most every one takes for granted. Brother good luck in this new job, it's hard to change from one career to another after doing one for so many years.

if the state pays one half of his pay how much is his pay as tax payers we have a right to know or is this another under the table deal by the commissioners

As the poster of the picture comment, may I say that it is easy to misinterpret the tone of a written comment. It was said in jest only. I apologize if it was taken wrong. As I said, Glenn will do a great job and I say that sincerely.

Congrads Glenn. I have worked with Glenn at fires and with fire training of our local depts. for years. I have found Glenn to be a great contibution to the community on the emergency end. I'm not aquainted with his school teaching abilities but I do know that when he helped teaching fire service training he was very good. I am only one person in the community and one opinion, but I believe stongely that Glenn will do a terrific job for our county. Glenn, if I can help, let me know. You desire this chance to prove to those disbievers.

"made phone calls, sent e-mails and letters"
Yea, that's changing things.... It's not until they feel the heat from the restless natives, that they sit up and listen.
As for the best man for the job,
Who did he beat out?
The Commissioners are going to run this county like their own private party and walk all over you until you stand up.
