Peek at the Past
We continue our nostalgic sojourn in neighboring Potter County this week. Doris Hills submitted this photo of the residents of Summerson's lumber camp in Lyman Run, taken in 1895 by a photographer named Clarke of Conrad.
A note on the back of the picture says the man in the background is Charles Arthur Johnson and the third man from the left in front row is John Johnson.
Note that there are three women in the photo, one with a babe in arms. We assume these women are family members of some of the loggers shown here. Apparently some men moved their families to the camps for the duration of the logging season. It looks like it was a pretty "rustic" lifestyle. Thanks Doris, for giving us this peek into local lumbering history....
