Lurenda (Rowe) Chandler, b. 1827 d. 1910. Widow of James Ezra Chandler in 1870, she raised a large family in her South Main Street, Port Allegany home, doing laundry, midwifing, boarding. Affectionately called "Grandma Chandler by all, sometimes adding "Mother of the "infamous" Chandler boys!" She boarded her disabled Civil War Veteran brother James Rowe for years. Through his obit, recently posted here, I learned that her house was just south of the river bridge, above, left going East on Rt 6...My Mother's great-grandmother...

Must have been a popular name in that area. My great great grandmother was Lurenda.

Tom Hardes That would be near where Mike Chandler lived. The same property at one time? " GRANDMA CHANDLER "
All of the earlier inhabitants will be glad to see the kind ernest face of Mrs. Ezra Chandler Sr., who before marriage was Miss Lurinda Rowe. Having lost her husband, " Grandma Chandler cheerfully took up the burden of raising their large family of sturdy girls and boys. Right well did she accomplish the task-industry, and honest effort were her watchword. Of the large family several have already passed to the great beyond, while many of the decendants are still counted among our number. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Chandler were:
- Catherine married Wm. Tubbs;
- Eliza married Robert Pattison;
- John married Della Wickizer;
- Simon married Adelia Burton;
- Ezra married Emma Goodsel;
- Adelia married Clarence Keihle;
- Enoch married Emily Coon;
- Emmett married Ermina Parker;
- Permelia married Truman McCord;
- Mina, who married Edwin Grimes.
