Suicide
Mige Burt, of Burtville, who has been living alone at the above place, since his wife parted from him a few weeks ago, was found dead in his bed by school children last Thursday morning. When found he had the appearance of being dead for several days, as decomposition was fast taking place. Blood was on the face and pillow, , the eyes were protruding from the sockets and his face was black and swollen, and presented a horrible appearance. An inquest was held which resulted in a verdict that he came to his death by poison administered by himself. On investigation aresenic was found in a package in his vest pocket.
Burt had not lived happily with his wife and her friends induced her to remove to Waverly, NY. Written notices were posted threatening revenge on the parties who had induced his wife to leave. Recently the building of one of the parties burned and suspicion fell upon Burt as the incendiary. Detectives were put on his track. They discovered papers, written by Burt, and the writing corresponded so exactly that they were about to arrest him when he committed suicide. The deceased was of rather weak mind, as his actions indicate.
