Lost and Found
Cyrus Valentine, 1007 Chestnut avenue, Altoona, PA, says that just after the battle of Gettysburg a young lady, who has since married and is now Mrs Mary E. Walters of 9163 Third avenue, Altoona, PA, visited the field to minister to the wounded. Lorenzo Rogers(Hodges), who Mrs Walters thinks belonged to a Pennsylvania regiment, was lying in a corn-crib on the farm of Edward McPherson, wounded unto death. He gave to the lady a tintype picture of his wife, daughter and babe. She will be glad to return it to the widow or any friend of Mr. Rogers(Hodges).

After working with a researcher for several months, we believed that this was my 2 X's ggrandfather, Lorenzo Hodges. He was shot 3 times, so was probably not able to make his last name of Hodges clearly understood to this nurse & it sounded more like Rogers! There's no way to know if she was ever able to return this tintype to his widow, Rosetta. Thanks Lanny for sharing this!
