Luke Green Maxon, a graduate of Alfred University, became the first principal of the Coudersport Academy. It was remodeled into a grade school building in 1869 with three teachers and 100 students and with Byron B. Slade as principal. In 1887, the building sold for $36 and was replaced with a brick structure.
