Jack Lewis Lent

COLESBURG, PA--Jack Lewis Lent, 79, of Colesburg, PA, passed away in the comfort of his home on Saturday, February 22, 2025, with his loving family at his side, after a brief illness.

He was born on April 22, 1945, in Coudersport, PA son of Lewis L. and Ruth "Marie" Barker Lent. On June 12, 1968, at Park United Methodist Church, Jack married the love of his life, Nancy K. Snyder who survives.

He was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1963. He went on to study and play football at Glenville College, in West Virginia. Soon after, he was drafted and served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1967 attaining the rank of SP4. After active military he served in the National Guard for several years.

As soon as he was able to milk a cow, he worked on his parent's dairy farm and continued to do so until his parents retired from farming. He spent his entire career at Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, which later became El Paso Energy. After a hunting accident in 2003, he retired after 35 years of service.

Jack was very proud to be from God's Country and was the family-appointed "Mayor of Colesburg". He served as a Director of the Woodland Cemetery Association of Coudersport and felt honored to place flags for veterans on Memorial Day and wreaths in December for Wreaths Across America. He was a life member of the American Legion, Potter Post 192 and was a very active member of the former Jaycees. Jack was a member and previously served on the Board of Directors of the Coudersport Golf Club. Jack enjoyed golfing with friends and even won the Coudersport Senior Open golf tournament in 2020. He was an avid hunter, but he enjoyed becoming a snowbird and spending a few months each winter in New Smyrna Beach with Nancy. In addition to golf and hunting, Jack was a man of many talents. He loved flower and vegetable gardening, bee keeping, cutting firewood, spotting deer, and taking folks on jeep and buggy rides. The Lent House was always full of laughter and love. Jack enjoyed welcoming guests, sitting around the kitchen table, and drinking a cold Genesee beer together. Although he was against getting another dog at first, Jack's treasured sidekick of 17 years, Bradley, was right by his side until Bradley's passing.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years; one son Pierre A. Lent (Jennifer) of Burlington, NC; son-in-law, Cameron Daniels of North Hollywood, CA; two grandchildren, Dakota L. (Dalton) Rooks of Greer, SC, and Hunter O. (Morgan) Lent of Burlington, NC; and one great-grandson, Finnick A. Rooks. Also surviving are three sisters, Diana (John) Nurczyk of Yulee, FL, Rosemary Zipfel of New London, PA, and Ruth Ann Long of Coudersport, PA; one uncle, George (Rosella) Barker; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jack and Nancy were also blessed with an incredible circle of friends, who are more like family.

He is preceded in death by his loving son, Toby B. Lent, who passed away on October 7, 2024. He is also preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Florence Snyder and Caroline Snyder; and brothers-in-law, David Long and Phil Zipfel.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Park United Methodist Church, 15 E Third Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 from 11:00am until 12:00pm. A celebration of Jack's life will begin at 12:00pm with Pastor Gregory Rapp officiating.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Saturday at the church.

Following the service will be a time of fellowship and refreshments in the Educational Building.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Coudersport.
