On Monday the 27th of August, Henry Smmith, better known as "Uncle Harry" died at this place, and thus this community is again called to mourn.
"Uncle Harry" was born in England in the year 1799 and was consequently 78 years of age. His father, Thomas smith, removed from England to Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia, in 1803, or when "Uncle Harry" was but four years old. Shortly after arriving a very malignant fever broke out, and for safety Thomas Smith with his family fled to the wilds of McKean county, settling at Ceres. Here he raised his family, the wild Indian boys being their playmates. Growing up with the country he of course had a very extensive acquaintance, and all unite in saying that we have lost another excellent man. It has been often said that "if you buy of 'Uncle Harry' you will be sure to get 16 ounces for a pound, and 32 quarts in a bushel," and "if he agrees to do so-and-so you can rest assured that he will do it."
By untiring industry, economy, and honest dealing he had accumulated quite a large fortune, the most of which he leaves to his only son, Frank.
