Jessie Whetsell's obituary in The Maryville Times
Jessie Whetsell, an old and highly respected citizen, died at his home in the 8th district Sunday night.
He was born June the 8, 1811 thus being over 85 years of age. He was born in Withe (sic) county, Va., had been married twice and was the father of 10 children. He had 46 grand children and 12 great grand children.
His second wife, whose maiden name was Sarah E. Renfro, survives him.
He joined the Luthern church in young manhood and has been a member all his life. The remains were interred at the Luthern church on the Cade's Cove road Monday. Prof. S.T. Wilson conducted the funeral services.
