A-I J-Z (Veterans Index) Medal of Honor Cemeteries
The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government.
It was created during the Civil War as a way of recognizing exceptional valor in the line of duty. The Navy Medal of Honor was created first, in September, 1861. The Army Medal of Honor followed on July 12, 1862.
Two soldiers from Potter County were awarded the Medal of Honor for valor in their Civil War service.
Corporal Thomas Cullen
Co I, 82nd New York Volunteer Infantry
Awarded for action at Bristoe Station, VA, October 14, 1863
Citation: Capture of flag of 22d or 28th North Carolina (C.S.A.).
Buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kinney PA
