DEATH OF HIGHLY RESPECTED CITIZEN
R.A. Barber of Portville Passed Away Quietly In His 85th Year
Portville, Nov. 15. (Special.)--
At eight o'clock Monday evening, R. A. Barber quietly passed away. He had been very low for several weeks. R. A. Barber was in his eighty-fifth year having been born in Wiredville, Rhode Island, on Dec. 17, 1827, and was a son of Samuel E. and Nancy Crandall Barber.
Since the age of three, he has made his home in this vicinity, but has been a resident of this village for only ttwo years. On the 21st of December, 1848, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Main, who died Jan. 1, 1867. But on April 25, 1868 he married Julia Stillman, who survives him.
Besides his aged wife, he is survived by one son,
- R. E. Barber of this place
and by three daughters,
- Mrs. A. C. Sanford,
- Mrs. Dora Maxson, and
- Mrs. H. B. Clark of Little Genesee,
and by one sister,
- Mrs. Martha Barber of Barber Settlement.
The funeral will be held at two o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. G. P. Kenyon of Richburg officiating and the interment at Main Settlement.
