Welton was my father's best childhood buddy. My parents said Weldon had a fabulous, very dry sense of humor. My uncle Clair Wilcox (Howard, Ed., and Onolee's older half brother), who was around 12 years older and became a professor of economics at Swarthmore was probably the guy who inspired Weldon when he chose Swarthmore.

Susan Emily Gates, Thanks for that tidbit of information from the Gates-Wilcox family. Weldon also had a positive influence from his Potter County educator parents. His mother was also one of the charter founders of the Potter County Historical Society.

Interesting that his middle name was Woodrow and my father’s first name was Wilson. Makes me wonder what they liked about president Wilson?
