Barbara Vance Cherep, a valued friend of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud Facebook page and a researcher of Appalachian history, first posted this article in 2017. At the time, Barbara said, "This is a Feb 26, 1893 picture [and story] of the hanging of Ellison [Cotton Top] Mounts. I know - there has been some controversy as to the picture being of Ellison Mounts hanging. Now, since this article is on the era, it sure does reinforece that it is of the hanging."
