From Friday's Daily
The Long Reach Oil company's No.1 on the Knowlton farm, back from Friendly, was completed last evening and is a rank duster.
The Wolff Pen Oil Co's No. 1 John Wetzel in the northeast extension of the Elk Fork pool, was completed last night and is showing for a fifty to sixty barrel producer.
The Kanawha Oil company's No, 29 on the Mills tract was drilled in yesterday and will make a small producer.
The Wetzel Oil company's No.1 on the John Wetzel, seven acres, came in a dry hole in the Keener yesterday. It will be drilled down to the Big Injun. No. 2 on this lease will be in within a few days. The result of No.1 will be sort of a wet blanket to operations in the Elk Fork extension, and discredits the theory that the Keener sand there is uniformly productive. The well in question is only 500 feet from Jerry Wetzel No. 1, a big producer, and is, in fact, surrounded on all sides by first-class wells. The evidence that the field is "spotted" has already had the effect of checking work recently commenced. Boyd Bros., who were starting a rig for their No. 1 Driggs, which is only slightly removed from the dry hole, will not continue the work.
The South Penn Oil company's' No. 1 Mary Wells, which was making ten barrels an hour regularly in the Keener after its recent completion, has blown itself out under the heavy gas pressure and is now making about 30 barrels a day. This company has started a well in advance of everything in the northeast extension. The locatiou is west of Wolff Penn run. The Henry Oil company's No.
6 Lloyd Gorrell, a fine well in the Keener, was made nearly worthless by drilling too deep. A big vein of salt water, was tapped, and great difficulty has been experienced in getting clear of this. The well was shot yesterday with much benefit and is now making about 30 barrels daily. A.J. Yoke, wno returned irom Scio yesterday, stated that the new development there has caused the greatest xoil excitement in his knowledge.
The influx of oil men is so great that accommodations cannot be had for all. From Monday's Daily. The United States Oil company has purchased the leases and production of Barasdall & Ranger, at Moore's Junction, in Ohio, just above IParkersburg, paying therefor $190,000. The property includes the 105 acre Wittekind farm and the 5 acre Causidy farm. The territory is shallow sand stuff and five wells, all large producers, are completed on the lease.
The Associated Prodccers* No. 1 Brooks iu the Whiskey Run pool which has been making about 75 barrels daily since its completion three months ago, is improving with age and the past week has been doing much better than the quantity stated. No. 4 on this lease is making 50 barrels natural. No.
4 has been shot and is showing up for a fine producer. Two wells are due in this territory the latter part of the week ? the Associatad Producers' No. 5 Bumgardner and Hacy & Co.'s No. 2 Heinselman. The former com.
