The Hatfield Clan of the Hatfield-McCoy-feud. The picture was taken in 1897 and appeared in the Iowa State Press dated February 11, 1889 (1898). The headline read
"In a Careless Moment Devil Anse Allowed It to be Taken. -- The Hatfields Wrecked the Photographer's Establishment."

Thru the Generations....: What amazes me, a family controlled by their passions ends up to be famous in the newspaper and a recorded photo in a moment of weakness is secured in the hearts, the minds, of so many people related to these people. Charles McCoy who has the same hatred, the same hostility, the same genetic lines came to roost in our lives. Amazing..... what a very small world.

I'm curious. comment states the picture was taken in 1897, however it appears in the IowaState Press dated February 11, 1889. That's eight years before the picture was taken. Were these facts checked, I'm wondering.

Good question...I haven't checked the facts but could be that the date is a typo...probably should be 1898 rather than 1889

The feud techinically ended in 1891 so I would doubt the 1889 date for the press. I think, Rxlady1 is probably correct in that it was a reversal of numbers rather than factual.
