Washington, May 16, 1864.
ED. Journal: I send a list of the killed from Potter county as far as could be gathered from the wounded in our hospitals-- the wounded you undoubtedly have before this.
Of the 53d Pa., James Blackman, of Hector and John Ross, of Ellisburg, were killed while on the post of duty.
Co. K, 149, Benjamin Higley, Hebron, O. Cortwright, Wharton; Daniel Elliott, Eulalia, John Butler, Germania.
These were all instantly killed. They are highly spoken of by their wounded comrades as brave and faithful soldiers.
Co. G, 149 Pa., Lieut. A.B. Horton, of Brookland.
