An Ancient Fortress
-------
Mr. Henry L. Reynolds, who has been investigating the Indian mounds in the vicinity of Portage, claims to have discovered an ancient fortress, of stone walls and earthworks, underground cellars, etc. on the farm of John Dunn, on the western bank of the Genesee river, four and one-half miles from Portage. The earthwork is situated on a precipitous hill, 123 feet high on it eastern and southern sides. We understand that Mr. Reynolds opened a mound on the "Dairy farm" about a mile sourhwest of the village and found quite a number of Indian relics of interest.
