Owen G. Metzger Passes Away Home Following Period of Failing Health.
Hon. Owen G. Metzger, born Potter County, for many years active in lumbering, banking and other business, completed his sojourn life, Sunday at 11:00 o'clock. Mr. Metzger was one of Coudersport's best known residents.
He was born in Hebron, February 22, 1853, a son of William and Pamila Coolidge Metzger, and his entire life was spent in Potter County. Some sixty-five years ago he was united in marriage to Phoebe McGee of Laceyville, Pa., and four

children survive from this union. They are
- Stanley Metzger of Colesburg,
- Mrs. Elsie Essinger of Rochester,
- Frank Metzger of Eureka Springs, Ark., and
- Miss Alice Metzger at home. The wife and mother preceded her husband in death a few years ago.
Mr. Metzger was elected representative in the general assembly and served one term in his younger days. Later he became president of the Citizens Safe Deposit and Trust Company and president of the American Silver Truss Company. He retired from active busi ness about five years ago but friends and associates came to his home for counsel and advice until very recently, and his mind remained clear and keen almost to the day of his death.
Metzger Athletic Field was a gift from Mr. Metzger to the town and Coudersport Hospital benefitted from his generosity, to say nothmg of benefactions of which the public never has learned. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He will be missed by a large circle of friends but most of all by his daughter who cared for him and ministered to him to the very last, lovingly and faithfully.
Funeral services were held from the home on North Main street at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with Rev. A. R. Guthrie of Port Allegany officiating. The bearers were

- Robert Grabe,
- Walter P. Wells,
- Jack Miller,
- Leo Miller,
- M. H. Lilly and
- Bert McElroy.
Burial was made in Eulalia Cemetery.
Relatives were present at the funeral from Canisteo, Greenwood, Genesee, Clearfield, Buffalo, Sel kirk, Ont., and various other points.
