Pvt. Jake Hamilton US Marine Corps Reserve.
He enlisted for the "duration plus six months" at Buffalo, NY, on 1 Jun 1944 at age 26. After basic, he flew home on a 10-day furlough beginning 11 Aug. Perhaps the photo was taken during that furlough.
As a member of the 4th Division, he suffered a shrapnel wound on 25 Feb 1945 during the Battle of Iwo Jima.
He was returned to duty 6 Mar.
