Nellie B. Chittester Died Yesterday at Lutheran Home
Nellie B. Chittester, 92, formerly of Kane R.D. 2, died last evening at the Lutheran Home of Kane.
She was born May 28, 1885 at Coudersport, the daughter of the late James and Helen Strong Dougherty. Mrs. Chittester had resided in Kane for the past 48 years, with prior residence in Falls Creek, Pa.
She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Kane and was a former employee of the Kane Community Hospital.
Surviving are three daughters,
- Mrs. Russell (Bertha) Farnsworth of Indianapolis, Ind.,
- Mrs. Howard (Beatrice) Yale of DuBois and
- Mrs. Charles (Mabel) Vaughn of Kane;
four sons,
- Carl Chittester of Mt. Jewett and
- Richard,
- Norman and
- Donald Chittester, all of Kane;
41 grandchildren; 87 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.
On Nov. 4, 1903, she married Oran Chittester, who died Aug. 27, 1964. Mrs. Chittester was also preceded in death by three sons,
- Walter,
- James and
- Merle Chittester, and by
- one daughter, Edith.
Friends are invited to call at the Cummings Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today and at the usual calling hours of 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Warnow, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
- Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
