Highly Respected Resident of Sartwell Creek Died Friday After Long Illness
______

Lydia Frances Ernst passed away at her home on Sartwell Creek October 7, 1938, after several months of illness.

She was born on Sartwell Creek September 27, 1857, to Jacob Lehman and Cyrena Starks Lehman. Her entier life had been spent in that community. She was 81 years old at the time of her death. Mrs. Ernst was a member of the United Brethren Church of Sartwell for 65 years.

She was united in marriage to Frederick C. Ernst on July 4, 1880. He preceded her in death by eight years. To this union four children were born, two dying in infancy. Surviving are
- Fred C. Ernst of Sartwell Creek and
- Mrs. Emma Eckert of Roulette.
Others surviving are
five grandchildren,
- Frankie C.,
- June and
- Jane Ernst, and
- Florence and
- Charles Eckert:
- a great grandson, Richard LaVerne Ernst,
and several nieces and nephews.
- Three brothers and
- three sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held at the church in Sartwell Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Edward I. Peters officiating. Mrs. Charles Faulkner and Mrs. Carl Thompson of Roulette sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus".
The pall bearers were

- Harry Rennells and
- Homer Taylor.
- Interment was in the Sartwell Creek cemetery.

The floral offerings were beautiful, showing the high esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Ernst, or "Aunt Lydia," as she was known by all, was always ready and willing to administer to the sick of the community.
