A Roulette R. D. farmer received fatal injuries when he was mauled' and gored by a two-year-old bull about 11:30 a. m. Monday.
Victor Meacham, 51, died at 7:20 a. m. Tuesday in the Potter County Memorial Hospital here of multiple injuries, including a puncture wound of the chest, perforation of the lung, fractured arm, brush burns and shock.
The bull, owned by Victor Brown, of Port Allegany, was shot.
Nobody witnessed the attack, which occurred while Mr. Meacham was driving his herd back from the farm of Adam Roboski, which adjoins. The Allegheny River, which separates the two places and normally acts as a barrier, is in low water stage and as a result, the cattle crossed to the Roboski place.
Mr. Roboski and his brother Jesse, who lives nearby, were digging a ditch on the former's place when they discovered the accident. Seeing the bull dragging an object about the field and remembering seeing Mr. Meacham go after the by Bull cattle" half an hour before, they seized shotguns and raced to the scene. The animal fled as they approached. They found the badly battered and bleeding farmer.
Leon Jordan, a Trout Brook farmer cutting hay nearby, also went to Mr. Meacham's assistance, wielding a pitchfork.
Still conscious, Mr. Meacham told them that the bull had turned on him. He said he thought his left arm was broken.
Jesse ran back to the house and summoned the Carley--Ambulance Service, at Rouette, which brought the farmer to the hospital.
His condition, although regarded as serious, was not thought critical. He took a turn for the worse at 4:30 a. m.- Tuesday and died about three hours later.
When the bull, still showed signs of fight Monday evening, Mr Jordan shot and killed it and notified the owner.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Friday) at 3 p. m. at the Gallup Funeral Home, Port Allegany..
