1938 MOSCH FAMILY REUNION SECRETARIAL MINUTES
Reunion 1938 Minutes
June 26th, 1938

After considering several locations near Carl Mosch’s home at Germania, Pa. the Ole Bull State Park site was decided on for the last Sunday in June as usual. After weeks of fine weather it started to rain during Saturday night and almost steady all day Sunday but by 10 AM the relatives began to arrive and when the President called the folks to assemble for dinner a check up revealed that 65 were present. After all were seated at the well laden tables President C. R. Mosch called on E.C. McElroy to say grace. After a bountiful dinner served by the ladies of the party in a fine shelter erected in the park by the CCC boys, Pres. C.R. Mosch gave a splendid talk expressing his pleasure at so many being present from all of the compass in spite of the rainy cold weather and muddy roads. He called on Carl Mosch as the oldest living member of the family to stand. Also on some of the other members including Dr. Herman C. Mosch, who however on account of his duties as interne at Hahnemann Hospital was unable to be present. Also John Mosch, dental student in U. of P. Phila., Walter F. Mosch, landscaper and tree surgeon of Long Island, Ny, Frank L Schoendorfer, Band Leader and Music Instructor of Jersey Shore, Pa. and others. He stated time did not permit him to call on more as he would like to have done.

He also mentioned that since the first regular reunion Frank Schoendorfer and Anna Mosch Schoendorfer of Jersy Shore, Mrs Louisa Mosch Krause of Germania, mother of Otto C. Mosch Sr., Emil Mosch Sr. of Coudersport, Pa. had departed this life. He also mentioned that the families of Olive Mosch Metzger were not present as O. G. Metzger, father of Stanley Metzger, her husband and grandfather of Olive’s children was very low and expected to die any minute. He further stated that Lena Mosch Kern of Gaines, Pa RFD was in very critical condition, which made it necessary for her children to remain at her bedside.

President C. R. Mosch then called on Otto C. Mosch, Secy. To read the minutes of the last previous reunion held at Coudersport, Pa. who also read letters to and from Herman Mosch living at Blakely, Pa. near Scranton, Pa. It has not been established that they are relatives but it is a coincidence that the men of the family bear names common to our own family such as Christian, Herman etc. The family called and visited Otto C. Mosch, Mary Webber and family and Carl Mosch Sr. in the summer of 1937 and had a pleasant visit and were invited to be present at our 1938 reunion but did not show up. A son William was an enrollee of the CCC Camp located at Dyer Farm for several years. It was also brought out that there is or was a Mosch Family at Tarr, Pa. near Pittsburgh, Pa. who came from Germany. A daughter, Mrs. Miller called on Otto C. Mosch while on a visit to Fred Bodlers at Germania as she had noticed the name Mosch over Otto C. Mosch’s store and had a pleasant visit with Otto C. Mosch and told him about her family. Her fathers name was John and she had an uncle Jacob in Germany and the mother brought no reply. John Mosch, son of Otto saw the family name of the N. Y. C. telephone book so we know definitely that there are other Moschs in this country but it has not been established that they are relatives as the head of our family in the US had no brothers living in Germany when he came to this country in 1870, and no other close relatives so far as is known by us here.

The president then remarked that in as much as he and the other officers had served four years he thought it time other persons were elected. However it was promptly moved and unanimously carried that C. R. Mosch, President, Otto C. Mosch, Secy. and Margery Mosch Historian be reelected for another term. Walter F. Mosch said he would bring the blue print of the family tree up to date. Most of us now possess blue prints prepared by Walter and his wife and daughters of Carl and Caroline Mosch, and their sons and daughters families down to the present time.

It required many days of hard painstaking work and is a perfect and efficient genealogy of the Mosch Family in America. Margery Mosch, wife of Frank J. Mosch had also prepared a History from facts known to herself and supplied to her by the members of the family which is to be written into a Family Tree book presented to the family by the Schoendorfers several years ago.

Discussion was then opened and it was suggested by Frank Mosch of Coudersport that in as much his father was dead and there was no one in particular to take care of the graves of our ancestors Carl and Caroline Mosch in the Lutheran Cemetary in Germania that some one be secured and paid for it by funds taken at a collection from those present. On motion by Otto C. Mosch, Mr. Irving Gressel husband of Emma Mosch agreed to look after it and $5.00 collected was handed to him although he asked for only $2.00. Walter F. Mosch remarked $2.00 was not enough to pay for the gas for his car back and forth let alone the work necessary to keep the lot in order.

The young folks of the reunion were disappointed that it was too cold to enjoy swimming in the fine pool built by the CCC boys at the park so they enjoyed themselves listening to the radios in the cars assembled in the vicinity of the shelter and the older folks played quoits, cards and just visited until it was time to return home at the close of another joyous and successful Mosch reunion.

Elmira N.Y. was selected as the site for the 1939 reunion with C.R. Mosch and the Elmira Moschs as hosts. Galeton and Germania relatives were hosts for the 1938 reunion.
