School Days on the Four Mile- John and Alvah Spring

Alva Spring (Uncle Dud) the tall blond chap in the back. His brother John, Grandpa SPRING, below him to his right, with the 'Eddie Haskel' look. Born in 1905 and 1902, respectively, John was almost 3 years older than Alva; they would have been about 8 and 11 years old, resp. Uncle Dud was always a pretty big man, while Grandpa's growth was presumably stunted by childhood disease (my opinion, not established fact.)
