The Late Alva HALL
Death of an Old Pioneer.

Mr. Alvah HALL died at his residence on the Four Mile on Monday evening, October 25, at the age of 81 years, after a lingering illness from a complication of diseases superinduced by cancer of the stomach. Several hours before his death, he lapsed into a state of unconsiousness and when the end came it was as quiet and peaceful as innocent sleep.

Mr. Hall was born at Wethersfield, Wyoming Co, NY, on April 9, 1828, and came to Allegany with his parents in 1832 and settled on the Two Mile, where the early years of his life were spent in lumbering and rafting in the pursuit of which business he bacame one of the most noted river pilots of the early days.

For many years past he has resided on the West Branch where by his industry and economy he hewed out of the living forest one of the best farms in this locality.

Mr. Hall has always been known as a man of the highest integrity and the strictest honesty and one whose disposition was always kind and genial. He was a loving husbnd, a kind and indulgent father, and an obliging neighbor.

Those who are left to mourn his loss can best appreciate the sense of sadness that will come over them as their thoughts revert to him.
Besides his widow, he is survived by
three daughters, Mrs. herbert Spring,
Mrs. John Laubenthal, and
Miss Orrilla hall, all of Allegany;
two brothers, David Hall and Joel hall of Nebraska,
one brother, Martin Hall,
and one sister, Mrs. Mary Rounds of Olean;
also by five grandchildren.

The funeral was held from his late home on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. J.H.Nelson of the M.E.Church officiating. A large number of his friends and neighbors attended the services and folowed the remains (to) the grave showing by this last means of respect the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him.
