Another Tragedy on Highway Takes Life of Local Man, Injures Another
Kent Snyder Instantly Killed, Charles Snyder Seriously Injured, in Wreck on Nine Mile Road
_______
Another tragedy of the road, with high speed and reckless driving the destructive factors, happened on Monday afternoon shortly after four o'clock on route 6, about two and a half miles from the Brookland intersection, wherein Kent Snyder, aged about 33 years, was instantly killed, and a cousin, Charles Snyder, aged 39, was seriously injured. Both men were employes of the State Highway Department and had just completed a job of painting guard-rails on the Brookland Club grounds, and were on their way to Coudersport when the accident occurred.
Charles Snyder was driving the car which is said to have been going in a zig-zag manner and finally left the road and down an embankment, sriking an apple tree with great force. The car was a complete wreck. Death was instantaneous to Kent, whose face and body were badly mutilated by the impact. Charles is still in a serious condition in the Coudersport hospital, suffering with internal injuries and face lacerations. One ear was taken off.
Kent Snyder was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Snyder, early settlers on Sweden Hill. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Alva Taggart, one half brother, A.W. Snyder of Sweden, and three half-sisters, Mrs. P.A. Dodd, of Ulysses; Mrs. Grace Simons of Port Allegany and Mrs. Katherine Klady, of Randolph, NY.
The funeral will be held today at the Sweden Valley Methodist church at 1:30, after a short prayer at the home of Charles DeWeese, at one o'clock, near Ladona. Burial will be made in Sweden Hill cemetery.
