The National Hotel in Coudersport was a brownstone situated on the west side of South Main Street about halfway between Allegany Avenue and Oak Street. The Kit Kat was across the street at the corner of South Main and Oak.
In 1951, the name was changed to the Luther Strong Hotel, with one advertising slogan “Meet me at the Luther Strong.” Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Daugherty were owners along with Mr. and Mrs. Merle C. Chittester.
By April 1957 the name apparently had reverted to the National Hotel, which was facing a sheriff’s sale and sold by F.W. Daugherty.
A fire severely damaged the hotel in April 1967. The hotel was torn down before late 1968, when taxes for the property were abated by 50 percent.
The Hotel National and the Hotel McGonnell were not the same, although both were once owned by James McGonnell.
I remember where the Hotel National was. There was a teen center in the same block in the early 1960s. The source of other information is The Potter Enterprise with clippings obtained from newspapers.com.

Any idea why the hotel would have been named after Luther Strong? Luther Leroy Strong? (my 1st cousin 1x removed). There were three generations of Luther Strong...

Frank Daugherty and Mrs. Chittester (Nellie Beatrice Daugherty) were siblings.

So, I found an article about "The Luther Strong Hotel" in the Potter Enterprise, 1951. It says that the Hotel was located on South Main Street. And owned by Frank W. Daugherty I'm assuming Coudersport but it does not say that. It says that the hotel was named after Luther Strong of Coudersport. He was my 4th Great Grandfather. I'm wondering if anyone know where it was located? It all so mentioned that Daugherty owned the Kit Kat Restaurant at one time. Could they have been the same place?

My great grandfather owned a hotel in the late 1890s, the McGonnell Hotel. It was located near the corner where art 6 turns right in downtown Coudersport
