In 1675 Matthew Wildman of Selside near Horton in Ribblesdale, West Riding of Yorkshire was excomunicated for non-payment of tithes and imprisoned for two years. In the following year just over the Lancashire border at Tatham the Rev Thomas Sharp committed Quaker Elizabeth Wildman "a widow about sixty years of age...to Lancaster Gaol" where, after nine months she died.
