Miles W. Knapp
Miles Knapp is the eldest son of William Henry & Hannah Barr Knapp. Miles & Fannie farmed near Stella, Nebraska, until Mile's death in 1914. Following Mile's death, Fannie moved to Nemaha City, Nebraska, where she lived until 1944.

Miles W. Knapp

Miles W. Knapp was born September 28, 1847, in Porter [Potter] County, Pennsylvania, to William Henry and Hannah Barr Knapp. He came to Nebraska wi th his father in the fall of 1870 and lived in Nemaha, Nebraska, helping to break prairie and operating a livery stable.
In 1880 he purchased a farm one mile north of Stella where he operated a dairy and supplied the town of Stella with Milk.
He married Rachael Hannah (Fannie) Proctor on October 2, 1873. She was bo rn October 18, 1857 in Illinois. Both of her parents died and she came to Nebraska and was reared by the mother of Mrs. Francis Withee. She a nd Mrs. Withee were cousins and near to each other as sisters. They moved back to Nemaha in 1902.
They had 8 children: Ed H. born in 1875; John Henry born May 4, 1876, died December 19, 1951; Eli M. born June 23, 1878, died December 8, 1962; Bessie Mae born March 2, 1881; died April 28, 1951; Anna Belle born August 7, 1884, died September 4, 1963; Joseph died at 3 months in 1886; Rich ard Raymond born August 23, 1889, died September 10, 1904, died March 24, 1985.
Ed married Minnie Webber. Their children were Ruth and Imogene. They made their home in Wyoming.
John attended Stella School. He married Josie May Webb in 1900 and farmed southwest of Nemaha for 30 years, then move[d] to Nemaha where he opera ted a prosperous service station and delivered milk around the community. He was known for his generosity, was a devoted husband and father and an avid high school sports fan. Their children were Gladys Thelma, Eld on E., Lola Hildred (died in infancy) and Zola Mildred. John died of carb on monoxide poisoning while putting on chains in his garage to go visit his wife in the hospital.
Eli attended school in Stella and married Ada E. Peabody who passed aw ay in November 1907. He then went to Newcastle, Wyoming where he homesteaded some land. After this he married Dora A. Morton and they owned and operated a grocery store in Nemaha. Dora died August 23, 1951 and after this E li lived in Auburn where he died December 8, 1961. He had two daughters, Helen and Norma.
Bessie married Leonard Gifford Shellenbarger on February 19, 1902 at Stella. They farmed near Stella and later moved to Idaho where they died. Their children were Raymond Calvin, Blanche Berneice, Vivien Irene, Emory Har old and Carl Joseph.
Anna married Clyde Kenton. They lived on farms in the Nemaha vicinity and in western Nebraska and spent their later years in Portland, Oregon. Th eir children were Ruth Bernice and Clyde Barton Jr.
Richard attended school in Stella until the family moved to Nemaha when he was 13 years old. He married Maude E. Kenton. They lived a few years in Hillsdale, Wyoming then lived on a farm near Nemaha. They moved to Auburn in 1941. Richard served two terms as County Commissioner. Their children were Alfred Miles, Donald D., Kenneth Kenton, Paul, Francis Olive and Richard Raymond Jr.
Jeff was a graduate of Nemaha High School. He married Crystal Ellen Gaskill and they farmed near Nemaha. In 1949 they moved to Table Rock where they owned and operated a grocery store. They had two sons, Bert Howard a nd Lloyd.
Miles was a member of the Stella Lutheran Church, the AOUW Stella Lodge and the IOOF of Nemaha. He died June 23, 1914.
Fannie attended the English Lutheran Church in Stella and united with t he Christian Church in Nemaha and took an active part as long as she was able. She was a member of the Eastern Star and known for her kind and thoughtful ministration of those in trouble and need. She died September 29, 19 44.
