John Stearns, 71, Meets Violent Death
Death came suddenly to John Stearns of Oswayo, Saturday, (Oct. 10, 1959). He died en route to a hospital in Olean, following an accident at Shinglehouse. The report is on another page.
Mr. Stearns was born in Greenwood, N. Y., May 17, 1888 and had lived in Oswayo the past 50 years. His second wife, the Josephine Shall, Oswayo, died in 1954.
Deceased is survived by a stepdaughter, Miss Helen Shall, Wellsville;
three sons: Clarence Stearns, Burlington, N. J.; Gordon Stearns, Oswayo; and Ralph Stearns, serving in the U.S. Air Force, and stationed at Pensacola, Fla.;
a sister, Mrs. Carl Bryant, Shinglehouse;
four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Tuesday from the Howard Funeral Home at Shinglehouse. The Rev. Lewis Rea, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, officiated. Burial was in Wells Cemetery at Oswayo.
