  Married: Joseph R. Barnes (1765-1813) Joseph R. Barnes, son of Joseph and Elizabeth ( ) Barnes, resided in New Hartford, Litchfield County, Connecticut, and married Huldah Bartholomew in New Hartford on September 14, 1794. Huldah was the daughter of Rueben Bartholomew of Harwinton, Litchfield, Connecticut, who had been a soldier in the Revolutionary War. Joseph was a farmer, and like his son Jarius, a carpenter. According to the Barnes Bulletin 2.0 Vol. 3, p. 25, he was a Whig in politics, and enlisted as a private in a New York unit in the War of 1812. Because Joseph died on 6 June 1813 in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada, there is a strong presumption that he was killed in the Battle of Stoney Creek at which British regulars succeeded in repulsing an American invasion force that had captured Fort Erie near present day Niagara-on-the-Lake by means of a surprise nighttime attack on the American encampment at Stoney Creek near present day Hamilton, Ontario. . Joseph and Huldah's son, Richard Wheaton, born in 1803, married Francis Ann Ballou and was a devout Methodist and farmer in New Hartford. Son Bartholomew born in 1798 married Polly Sara Ernestly Pierce and moved to New York were he farmed. Bartholomew died in Alden, Erie, News York. Son Jarius Harrison Barnes was a carpenter and joiner by occupation and engaged in contract building in Middletown, Connecticut. Jarius was a member of the Congregational Church and a Republican in politics. He resided at Saddle Hill, Middletown where he died. .
